So that's what I did, basically removed the throttle body and ERG, removed the stuck on carbon and soot then cleaned of with some diesel and a toothbrush and then reattached the two parts to the car. One of the reply's rekened a good clean could be the answer to the problem so I thought that was as gooder place to start.
The scan tool identified a code that when checked on an internet search was said to be a fault with the ERG.
With the changes to the MOT schedule I thought I'd buy a cheap code scanner, as the orange engine light pretty much been on since I brought the car three years ago.
